Where to stay in Gdynia, Poland

As a Gdynia local, I don’t stay here in hotels very often. From the other side, I know many hotels well; I know their location and opinions about them.

Regardless if you are planning a short stay or longer holidays in Gdynia, this post is for you. I will describe the best places to stay together with the description and explanation.

One of the most crucial factors for me to choose the places on the list is their location. They just need to be in the centre and/or within walking distance of the seaside. This is the best way to get to know the city and spend great time here, and I personally think the central location of the beach is one of the biggest advantages of the city.

A few words about Gdynia

Gdynia is a city in the north of Poland with around 250 000 inhabitants. Together with Gdańsk and Sopot, it forms Tricity.

I know that many people visit Gdynia just for one day during their stay in Gdańsk. It’s a good option as well.

But Gdynia has a different vibe than Gdańsk, a bit more laid-back and ‘typical holiday’. So if this is what you are searching for over city break, staying in Gdynia could be a good option for you.

Also, in summer there are many events in the city, with the most well-known being the Opener Festival.

In 2026, Gdynia celebrates 100 years (it’s a very young city compared to many in Poland, with an interesting history), so there will be even more interesting events happening for all year.

Ok, let’s check where to stay in Gdynia.

The most well-known hotels

Let’s start from the biggest ‘classics’ and the most known hotels.

Mercure Gdynia Centrum

The legendary hotel opened in 1983 under the name ‘Hotel Gdynia’, in which many social events were taking place. 10 years ago it underwent a huge renovation and changed into the Mercure Gdynia Centrum.

You probably know what to expect from this hotel chain; it’s a very good standard with a known restaurant.

The hotel has a great location; it’s in the city centre close to the main Świętojańska street. It’s a very short walk from the beach, the Music Theatre and Film Centre, and it’s in the centre of the Film Festival every September.

It’s around a 15-20 minute walk from the train station.

Gdynia Waterfront

Hotel Courtyard by Marriott Gdynia Waterfront opened in 2015, in an interesting building from a architecture and design perspective, giving a bit of a Nordic vibe. It has a great location, as it’s really just at the waterfront, next to the ‘new marina’, close to all the biggest water attractions like museums on the boats or the Aquarium.

The hotel has great views and very good restaurants and very positive opinions regarding, for example, breakfast.

It’s a bit ‘on the edge’ but still in the centre, and you can get to the hotel from the train station (where trains from the airport arrive) in around 20 minutes’ walk.

If I were booking the hotel in Gdynia, that would probably be one of my first choices because of the vibe, views, and location.

Hotel Nadmorski

Hotel Nadmorski is right on the seaside; you basically just need to walk a few steps down, and you will be at the seaside boulevard. So it’s a great place if you want to have nice walking spaces and nature around. Close to the hotel there is also a beach and forest, where you can join a trial path leading to Sopot. And next to the hotel there are tennis and pickleball courts.

The hotel is not right in the centre, but it’s still within walking distance of it, and it’s quite close to the city park (Park Centralny).

The standard of the hotel is quite typical, nothing super fancy, but just good enough. My ex-company organised a few Christmas parties in this hotel years ago, and the food was fine.

Other places to stay in the centre

These are the most well-known hotels, but obviously, that’s not all. There are more places to stay that are worth looking at, especially if you prefer smaller hotels or pensions:

Różany Gaj: the name can be translated as ‘Rose Grove’. Intimate hotel in a calm location, with great views, just stairs up from the sea promenade (my second favourite hotel idea after Waterfront).

Willa Wincent: a villa with a pretty design, further from the centre (still walking distance), but very close to the sea promenade

Hotel Gdynia Boutique: a hotel in the centre, next to the main street and around 10 minutes’ walk from the promenade. Just right next to the hotel there is a good Asian restaurant and a nice café. It has a nice interior in the hotel with some sea accents.

There is also one more hotel which, in my opinion, doesn’t have the best location. You can still walk to the centre and restaurants and to the beach, but it’s a bit further, and the hotel is close to the train tracks. However, the hotel is new and looks really nice and modern. It also has very good opinions, so I’m adding it to the list. It’s My Story Gdynia.

If you like staying in the apartments, there are many in Gdynia, especially in the Sea Towers or in the new buildings around the marina.

Places to stay in Orłowo

Separate chapter I want to dedicate to places to stay in Gdynia Orłowo neighbourhood. This is not in the centre, but it’s one of the most beautiful places in Gdynia, at the sea, with a pier and Orłowo cliff.

It’s very easy to reach the neighbourhood from the main train station: by bus or with 6-minute ride on the city train.

Orłowo is considered an elegant place with nice houses, and it’s a great choice if you prefer a calmer location, with walking paths and the beach close.

And, there are a few great, stylish hotels.

Hotel Willa Lubicz and Moje Orłowo Boutique Bed&Breakfast are both small hotels with stylish, elegant décor, and both are close to the Orłowo pier and beach.

In Willa Lubicz there is also a small spa.

Further from the sea there is one more special place: Hotel Quadrille, which is part of Relais & Châteaux organisation of luxurious hotels.

The hotel is located in the park, in the building from the 18th century. It has a famous restaurant and a second pub-restaurant. The interior of the hotel is very interesting; it relates to Alice in Wonderland (however, the hotel is adults-only), and it’s decorated with products from the most well-known companies like wallpapers from ‘Cole & Sons’.

The hotel also has spa and wellness centre, swimming pool, sauna, etc.

I was in the day spa in this hotel celebrating the birthday of my friend, and I liked it because of the style and calmness.

If you are coming to Gdynia in the summer, try to book a place to stay as early as possible. Especially around Opener Festival time, as it’s fully booked then and prices grow significantly. But also during the whole summer season it might be quite busy, especially if the weather is good.
