In Poland, regularly bigger and smaller events take place. You will find here many volleyball events, as it’s one of the most favourite sports in the country, but also other ones like football or athletics.

There are quite many stadiums and arenas where competitions can take place. The National Stadium in Warsaw, with around 60 000 viewers, is the perfect place for sports and concerts. There are other stadiums too, stadiums in Chorzów, in GdaƄsk or in WrocƂaw. There are also arenas like Tauron Arena in Kraków with 16 000 viewers or Ergo Arena in GdaƄsk, where 12 000 fans can watch the event.

It seems that 2027 can be even more spectacular in sports than the coming year, but 2026 will not be boring either.

Let’s see what the biggest sports events planned to take place in Poland in 2026 are. I will also give you some tips on how to organise your trip for these events.

Athletic events in 2026 in Poland

Indoor Championships

Already in March, from 20th to 22nd March 2026, one of the biggest events in athletics will happen, meaning the World Championships in Indoor Athletics. It will take place in an arena in ToruƄ, but the official organiser is the whole Kuyavian and Pomeranian region.

The tickets are partially sold out. Still some are available, so if you are interested in the event, buy them as soon as possible.

ToruƄ is a pretty gothic town with a nice Old Town and monuments. It’s a place from where pierniki (gingerbreads) come from; you can buy them in many shops as well as visit the Gingerbread Museum.

ToruƄ doesn’t have an airport, but the airport is in another city in the region, Bydgoszcz.

Here I described details of arriving in Bydgoszcz by plane.

The other airports further, but not that far, from ToruƄ are GdaƄsk, PoznaƄ, and Warsaw.

And here you can review the accommodation options in ToruƄ.

Diamond League

For years already, the Silesia Memorial of Kamila Skolimowska has been on the map of world athletics events. For a few years it has been part of the Diamond League. During past events, you could, for example, see in ChorzĂłw Armand Duplantis reaching another world record.

The competition is scheduled for August: 23 August 2026.

It’s in Chorzów, so your closest airport is in Katowice, but you can also use Kraków airport.

Tickets here.

In 2027 more athletic events will take place in Poland, like the U23 and U20 European Championships.

Eurohandball

In December 2026, Women’s Eurohandball will take place. Championships happen every second year, and in 2026 the tournament will have 5 country hosts: Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Poland. In Poland, however, the final weekend will take place.

More precisely, in Katowice, in an iconic arena called Spodek. Arena has hosted the biggest sports events; for me, it will always be the place where I saw live Polish volleyball team winning the World Championships in 2014.

Anyway, it’s not the most modern arena, but it’s really good for watching indoor sports like handball. For sure many supporters will visit, especially from Scandinavian countries. The most convenient will be the airport in the city itself, in Katowice. You can also fly to Kraków, as it’s not very far.

Eurohandball takes place 3-20 December 2026; here you can buy tickets (for now it’s only day tickets, as the group drawing hasn’t been done yet).

Check accommodation options here. There are quite many hotels reachable from the arena by foot.

Volleyball, Basketball, and Football

Volleyball

There will be World Championships in 2027 in Poland; it will be a huge and important event. In 2026 there is no event planned in Poland yet; however, usually there is at least one tournament of the Nations League. The hosts are announced later on.

The most used arenas for volleyball are the ones in GdaƄsk, in KrakĂłw or in ƁódĆș, so there is a high chance the event would be there.

Especially GdaƄsk sounds like a good idea for a destination during the summer.

Polish volleyball and handball clubs also participate in Champions League competitions.

Basketball

In June, in the heart of Warsaw, next to the Palace of Culture and Science, the World Championships in 3×3 Basketball will take place. It will be a great and interesting event; it’s also very easy to arrive in Warsaw from most of the airports.

I’m planning to write more posts on Warsaw soon. For now, here you can search for your accommodation.

Football

When it comes to football, Poland has definitely less success. But obviously the international matches happen. In 2027, the Women’s Champions League final will take place in Warsaw.

In 2026, we will have the U20 Women’s World Cup from 6th to 27th September 2026, and the tournament will happen in 4 host cities: Katowice, Sosnowiec, Bielsko-BiaƂa and ƁódĆș.

Otherwise in football: it’s qualification games (that take place in Warsaw or Chorzów stadiums for men and in GdaƄsk stadium for women) and games of Polish clubs in European competition, although usually not at this highest level.

Other regular events

Speedway

The other regular point of sports games that take place in Poland is speedway competitions. Grand Prix was usually taking place on the National Stadium in Warsaw, but this year it will be in ToruƄ, WrocƂaw and ƁódĆș.

In Warsaw though, there will also be Team World Cup on 29.08.2026 in Warsaw.

Ski jumping

Also ski jumping competitions take place every year in Poland. It’s one of the sports liked very much in Poland. You can combine watching ski jumping with visiting Polish mountains.

In January, there are competitions in Zakopane, the best-known town in Tatra mountains.

10-11 January 2026, tickets here.

Cycling

The most known cycling event is the Tour de Pologne. In 2026 (03-09 August), it will start in Gdynia at the seaside to celebrate 100 years of the city.

That’s probably not all yet; there can be some other smaller events taking place too. However, these are the most known sports events that are planned to take place in Poland in 2026.

If you are planning to arrive for any of them, you can find more tips on travelling to Poland here.
